Ieder weet van buiten het vers dat aan Pope dee
pen zendbrief op't lyf had gehaald,
P—xed by her love, or libell'd by her hate.
De practycq egter van haar grondregel vind men
ongelukkiglyk by geene van beidenmaar zy heeft
tot haar voordeel van te kunnen zeggen dat zy
aangetast was.

genis, welke by fchryvers van Epifche werken in
't algemeen en by die van Vaderiandfchc in 't
byzonder, verdient aangemerkt te worden: Silius
Italicus, who has taken more Pains on the Geo
graphy of Italy than any other of the Latin Poets
has given a Catalogue of most of the Rivers that I
faw in Umbria, or in the .Borders of it. He has
avoided a Fault (if it be really fuch) that Macrobi-
us has objected to Virgil of pasfing from one
Place to another, without regarding their regular
and natural ficuation, in which Homer's Catalo
gues are obferv'd to be much more methodical and
