De approbatie liep niet zoo vlug van stapel. Eerst moest
ze worden uitgesteld wegens onvoldoende stukken en later,
toen de beroepene eene nadere verklaring omtrent zijn candi-
daatschap uit Engeland had overgelegd, ging de classis nog
maar schoorvoetend er toe over de aangevraagde approbatie
te verleenen -1) en den candidaat Worsley tot het examen toe
te laten. 2)

Gentlemen
The great honour you have done me by unanimously calling me to the high
and important office of your minister in this church of God, I do with great
thankfulness, I trust in the true fear of Almighty God, accept of. His unseen
hand has I thinck in a most remarkable manner discovered itself therein: and
as my constant study and endeavour shall be thro the assistance of His di
vine spirit, which I hope will be given unto me, to approve myself unto God
a workman that need not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth,
doing all to the honour and glory of my great Lord and Master, so my dayly
and frequent prayer shall be, that I may become an instrument in His hand to the
salvation of many precious and immortal souls. My desire will be to tread in
the steps of that eminent and faithful! servant of Christ, whom I, tho un
worthy, by you called am to succeed. I pray God, we may so spend our days
here in His fear and love and in unity and brotherly love one to another,
that for the sake of His beloved Son, we may all meet together in a state of

Het beroep werd van wege het collegium qualificatum der Engelsclie kerk door
de beide daartoe aaugewezen ouderlingen mr. Pieter de Swaute en uir. Cornelis
Isaak Ode in de classis van Walcheren (7 Juni) ter approbatie gebracht. Deze
vergadering approbcerde provisioneel wegens gebrek aau voldoende attestaties,
zijnde het toen vertoonde bewijs of attestatie zeer algemeen en bevattende slechts
dat G. H. Worsley sedert den (daarin uitgedrukt) was een waardig can
didaat. De classis besloot den beroepeue toe te laten tot het examen, mits hij vóór
hetzelve voldoende attestatie zou inbrengen van zijn lidmaatschap, zijn propo
nentschap en dat hij gestudeerd had in de talen. In de volgende classicale ver
gadering (5 Juli) werd eene attestatie-gelezenten voordecle van Worsdey gegeven
volgens onderteekeuing door Widdiam Prior, weleer predikant van de kerk te
Ratcliff, nu van Avon (Devonshire), Hugh Burdett, predikant te Newington
en Ik Marr, lid van de kerk te Newiugton, afgegeven 17 Juni J759, waar
van de inhoud was geschikt naar hetgeen de classis vorderde
