siderable confusion here. Block commanded Hof van Zeeland in summer 1666: her last
payroll covers the period from 1 January 1666 until the ship was lost in June: it gives
Block in command for the whole period. The error is simply that 'and Vlissingen has not
been added to the title of the source, as Block and his crew had transferred from that
ship to Hof van Zeeland by 8 March 1666 (Jan Matthijssen took over Vlissingen on that
date). A posthumous mondkost account for Block also contains a similar error: it gives
