misslagen. Zoo iemand kan onmogelijk met succes in eenig ambt
werkzaam zijnvooral niet als candidaat tot den heiligen dienst
daar inzonderheid van een bedienaar des Evangelies verwacht
mag worden, dat zijn gedrag en wandel onbesproken zijn.
Vervolgens is genoemde Worsley nooit geëxamineerd ge
wordennoch door eenige kerkelijke vergadering, noch door
een daartoe bevoegd persoon. Zijne overgelegde attesten zijn
valsch en gefingeerd gebleken. Een dier attesten was zelfs on
derteekend door een predikant, wiens persoon en standplaats
men tot heden nog niet heeft kunnen uitvinden. 1) Eene
andere handteekening, nl. die van den heer Hugh Burdett,
predikant te jNTewingtonis gebleken nagemaakt, dus valsch
te zijn, daar genoemde predikant verklaard heeft nooit een
of ander attest voor Worsley te hebben afgegeven. Tevens
meldde de heer Burdett daarbij, dat Worsley zich op eene
bedriegelijke wijze in het predikambt heeft ingedrongen, zich
uitgevende voor een wettig geordend (predikant) proponent.
Zoo deed hij ook hier te Middelburg.
„Further tbc abovemantiou'd qualify d college finds, that the attestations
which G. II. AVorsley hath produced as a testimony of his pretended candidateship,
are forged and feigned instruments, whilst one of the places, where his principal
attestation is said to he signed, namely Avon in Devonshire, is not to be found
in all England, nor the minister William Prior, who is said to have sign'd the
attestation, is not known; yea, what is more, that a certain William Prior far
from signing his attestation as minister of Avon in Devonshire, on the. contrary
has sign'd a declaration as minister (formerly at Rathclifj at present in Alif-
street iu London, to the prejudice of George Hughes Worsley. Likewise it
appears to the qualified college false and feigned, that if Wlliam Prior (and
even at Avon iu Devonshire) had sign'd the before meuliou'd attestation, that
the same in so short a time after could also be sign'd by Hugh Burdett, for
according to the signing of the before-meutioud attestation by William Prior
the 15 June 1759 and by Hugh Burdett the 17 June following, in which was
not the least possibilitywhilst that attestation could not arrive from the pre
tended Avon in Devonshire to the hand of Hugh Burdett in two days, who
was at that time iu York; nay, if he had been eveu at Newingtou, then it
would also have been impossible, whilst Newiugtou as well as York are above
one hundred miles distant from the pretended Avon in Devonshire." Zie Sentence
