De Vrijheid van Godsdienstprijs is toegekend aan
de drie geestelijken Dieudonné Nzapalainga, Omar
Kobine Layama en Nicolas Guérékoyame-Gbangou
voor hun inzet voor vrede in hun land, de Centraal
Afrikaanse Republiek. In hun land, dat wordt ver
scheurd door burgeroorlog, hebben zij zich verbonden
aan een voortdurende interreligieuze dialoog. Terwijl
hun geboorteland wordt geteisterd door geweld werken
zij onvermoeibaar voor de vrede om hun land bijeen
te houden, waarbij zij soms hun eigen leven riskeren.
Samen reizen zij door hun land, spreken zich uit voor
vrede en verzoening en hebben zij hun kerken en mos
kees opengesteld als schuilplaats voor vluchtelingen.
Zij hebben het Interfaith Peace Platform opgericht,
dat verzoening en dialoog bevordert tussen Moslims,
Katholieken en Protestanten en zich inzet voor een
infrastructuur voor de vrede in hun land.
The Freedom of Worship Award for the three clergy
men Dieudonné Nzapalainga, Omar Kobine Layama
and Nicolas Guérékoyame-Gbangou is motivated by
their work for peace in the Central African Republic. In
their country torn by armed conflict, they have commit
ted themselves to an ongoing interfaith dialogue. As
violence ravages their country, they have been working
tirelessly, and sometimes at great personal expense,
for peace. Together they have travelled all over their
country preaching reconciliation to communities and
they have opened churches and mosques to provide
shelter to people uprooted by conflict. They founded
the Interfaith Peace Platform in 2012, which promotes
reconciliation and dialogue among Muslims, Catholics
and Protestants and which aims to establish a support
infrastructure for peace in their home country.
